Melissa Mielens, hailed in reviews for her “eloquence” and “ethereal flute lines,” is the principal flutist for the Vermont Symphony Orchestra and the Vista Philharmonic. She has toured abroad with various orchestras, including Japan with the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra, the United Kingdom with the New World Symphony, and more. She has also been a prizewinner in several national and regional competitions, including the National Flute Association Young Artist Competition and the Pappoutsakis Flute Competition. Her playing has been featured on numerous radio stations, with live performances on WGBH and WVPR.

Mary Jane Austin is enjoying a rich musical life in Vermont and abroad, where her interests range from recital work and full-scale opera productions to teaching and choral conducting. She has been the conductor of the Mad River Chorale since 2018, after a long tenure as a collaborative pianist for the organization. She serves as principal keyboardist of the Vermont Symphony, and in 2016 she was awarded the title of "Honorary Conductor" by the VSO. She has frequently collaborated with the Craftsbury Chamber Players, TURNmusic, and Eleva Chamber Players, and performs regularly with bass Erik Kroncke; together they direct opera and operettas at the Unadilla Theatre every summer.
