Samantha Eckert
Samantha Eckert was born in Glen Cove, NY and raised in Brownsville, VT. She lived in New Mexico for many years but returned to Vermont in 2012. Her work is derived through exploration of varied tactile materials and mediums ranging from oil painting to life size figures to installation work. Childhood recollection, ancestral residual, and memory affect, are constant themes woven into all the things she makes.
Eckert holds a BA from Vermont College of Norwich University, a Certificate in Museum Studies from The Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, NM, and began her graduate studies through the Johnson State College/Vermont Studio Center MFA program yet earned her MFA in Visual Art in 2015 from Vermont College of Fine Arts. She studied collage with Holly Roberts in Albuquerque, NM. Additionally, she received a grant to attend Anderson Ranch in Snowmass, CO
Through process and materials my intention is to create compelling work; work that allows affect to remain with the audience through their experience, interaction, and relationship with it. I am interested in punctum, making a long lasting meaningful impression is my goal
