Burlington Bike Path, old Moran Power Plant
This piece resulted from the International Sculpture Symposium, which took place on the shores of Lake Champlain in 1990. Local artist Paul Aschenbach was the motivator behind the symposium, having attended other similar events around the world. Eleven established international sculptors were invited to participate. The focus of the collaboration was man and the natural environment, ecology, environmental change, cultural life and history of the region. The Moran Sculpture preserved a footprint on the Waterfront in hopes that it would never be developed, and it succeeded for many years. Now a new facility and park is planned for the site and the sculpture will be reappropriated but not forgotten.
