Tarrah Krajnak: Inch of Dust
October 1, 2010 - December 11, 2010
In this exhibition Peruvian-born, Midwest-raised artist Tarrah Krajnak examined the function of the photograph in the authentication of origins, identity and the experiential. Appropriating the photographer Chambi’s archived photos of Peruvians, Krajnak juxtaposed object and image by projecting the pictures onto sculptural paper bodies and distorting them by way of re-photographing. Inch of Dust played with and challenged the roles that photography takes as an historical and characterization tool; questioning how we learn about other ethnicities via archives and how we personally and culturally derive meaning from photographs.
