Of Land and Local
September 27, 2013 - December 7, 2013
"A layered location is replete with human histories and memories, place has width as well as depth. It is about connections, what surrounds it, what formed it, what happened there, what will happen there."
Of Land & Local is an ongoing multidisciplinary, state-wide exhibition designed to initiate a dialogue about issues surrounding the Vermont landscape. Our shared interest in land and our enthusiasm for the local laid the groundwork for this exhibition.
Artists and farmers are two of the key players in establishing the social and cultural fabric of Vermont. Artists search for new ways to question the world we live in to nourish our minds while farmers search for new ways to enrich the world we live in to nourish our bodies.
Of Land & Local began with the known connections between culture and place. The projects explored the notion that culture helps define place, but also that place plays a significant role in establishing culture.
