Jessica Nissen: Rorschach Drawings
December 17, 2010 - March 26, 2011
Jessica Nissen’s Rorschach Drawings explored perception, the subconscious and extremes of spontaneous creativity. Based upon the controversial psychological test of the same name, it featured over 30 drawings from her All in Our Head series. Originally designed to evaluate personality traits and underlying mental disorders, Nissen used the psychological test as a point of departure, drawing and painting directly on top of her own Rorschach inspired inkblots. Her inspired, free-associated responses ranged from hybrid creatures to suburban architecture. These intriguing and exquisitely rendered illustrations were both playful and hallucinogenic.
Jessica Nissen splits her time between NYC, where she works as a scenic artist for the entertainment industry and Vermont, teaching drawing at Middlebury College.
