Dan Tranberg: Imperial Material
May 24, 2013 - July 6, 2013
While traditional conventions of painting prioritize image and content, Dan Tranberg’s work inverted this dynamic by championing the materials used in the paintings’ composition. Through the incorporation of materials like yarn, glitter, and Roll-a-Tex, Tranberg’s work created an overtly tactile experience that emphasized materiality above all else. This manipulation of formal systems resulted in dynamic, gem-like paintings that are ideal for contemplation.
