FILM OVERVIEW

Piet Oudolf, the landscape designer of New York’s High Line and Chicago’s Lurie Garden is one of a very few to define gardening as an art, and certainly the most important garden designer in a generation or more. The film follows Piet and a number of his most important gardens across five seasons, beautifully capturing all the aspects that make his designs unique and revolutionary. The film examines his creative process and its important ecological implications. As we look at works in England, Hummelo, New York, Chicago, Nantucket, Germany, Sweden, and Holland, we also observe candid conversations between Piet and collaborators – garden writer Noel Kingsbury, landscape ethicist Rick Darke, architect Peter Zumthor, artists Thomas Struth and Jeff Koons along with interviews with noted museum and public park directors from around the world. The film attempts to convey the visual and visceral experience of being present in the gardens and the experience of all four seasons.
